Does Barrier remove ammonia and nitrite?
Barrier is a water detoxifier designed only to remove chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals. The neutralization of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate requires use of strong industrial reducing agents that ATM does not recommend for ongoing maintenance in aquaria. Ammonia and nitrite neutralization can be necessary in some situations, but establishing and properly addressing issues with the natural bio-filter of the aquarium is the proper method of dealing with ammonia and nitrite.
